The Soul of Malta: Where Ancient
                                                  Civilizations Meet Modern Innovation
Imagine an island that has stood at the crossroads of human history,
where the very stones echo tales of civilizations long gone and new beginnings. Malta is more than just a destination; it’s a living canvas of cultural convergence. Over thousands of years, this Mediterranean archipelago has been shaped by migrants, conquerors, and traders, from the earliest human settlers arriving from Africa to the Romans who sculpted its grand Baroque facades. Walking through Malta is like stepping through a living museum, where Latin arches, Arabic whispers, and the weight of Europe’s history can be felt in every turn of its winding streets.

Malta’s language alone tells the story—an exotic blend of Semitic roots interwoven with Latin, creating a linguistic mosaic that reflects its diverse cultural heritage. Here, ancient megalithic temples sit side by side with crusader-built fortresses, embodying Malta’s historic role as the guardian of European civilization. Once a battleground for religious and territorial supremacy, Malta today thrives as a global hub, where modernity meets tradition and people from all corners of the world come to contribute to its ever-evolving identity.
For today’s travelers, professionals, and innovators, Malta offers a unique vantage point that is unlike anywhere else. When Harry visited, he was captivated by the way this small island effortlessly marries its ancient history with modern-day innovation. Whether you’re gazing at stone temples older than the pyramids or watching the sun set over the sleek, contemporary business districts, Malta invites you to experience a nation that has woven the past into a forward-looking future. From Harry’s perspective, Malta doesn’t just share its story—it makes you a part of it, welcoming you into its dynamic and evolving journey.

Malta is not just another island with picturesque beaches and sunny weather; it’s a thriving hub for business, innovation, and culture.
With a history that dates back over 7,000 years, Malta is
a country where ancient traditions blend seamlessly with modern development.

Located in the heart of the Mediterranean, Malta is perfectly positioned as a bridge between Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. Its strategic location has historically made Malta a crossroads for international trade and culture. Today, Malta’s proximity to major European cities via land or sea transportation, makes it an attractive destination for both work and travel.
Additionally, with English as one of Malta’s official languages,
Indian nationals who are proficient in this language will face

Maltese Culture: A Blend of Tradition and Modernity

During his visit, Harry was struck by Malta’s rich cultural blend. The country offers a fascinating mix of Mediterranean traditions, historical sites, and modern innovation. From ancient architecture to bustling urban centers, Malta presents a harmonious balance of old-world charm and new-world opportunities.

While deeply rooted in its Catholic traditions, as can be seem by the near-extreme number of churches on the islands, the Maltese community is a tolerant and diverse society that warmly welcomes people
from all faiths, including a growing Hindu and Sikh community.

Maltese history is reflected in its cuisine. It is composed of a delightful fusion of Mediterranean flavours, and ingredients spanning from all around the world, highlighting Malta’s importance as a major trade route hub.
Harry explored local dishes like the octopus stew or the traditional stewed rabbit, which are both considered to be national dishes, and both represent key Maltese values, Sustainability and Family.
The sea around the Maltese islands is amassed with seagrass that provides a natural nursery for a wide diversity of marine species, some of which served as staple ingredients for traditional dishes. As stewards, free-divers have been harpooning octopi since time immemorial. Nevertheless, one could still encounter such intelligent molluscs by snorkelling in secluded spots. Regarding the latter, wild rabbit is deemed to be an inferior choice for human consumption. Instead, Maltese have mastered the art of cuniculture, which was allegedly introduced by the French in the late 1800s. Stews are typically prepared as a one-dish meal and each pot would serve the whole household, and served with delicious sour-dough bread for dipping.

Other traditional Maltese foods considered to be ‘must-tries’ are pastizzi (a flaky pastry filled with ricotta or peas), baked kannoli (pastry filled with ricotta cheese) and imqaret (deep-fried sweet pastry filled with spiced date and citrusy paste).
Notwithstanding all the new Mediterranean tastes, a burgeoning Indian food scene that felt like a taste of home, was still found around amid the dense metropolitan area. The warm social culture, with its outdoor cafes, festivals, and strong family values, resonated deeply with Indian traditions.

The island is internationally known for its festivals and colorful traditions (pictures of tourists on Maltese Luzzu & Regatta) that are alive and well today.

Social life in Malta is vibrant, with locals and expatriates alike enjoying all amenities one can think of, including but not limited to co-working spaces, social cafes and clubs, beach and pool clubs, trendy bars and restaurants, as well as nightclubs

A Thriving Economy with Endless Opportunities

One of the key factors that attracted Harry to Malta
    was its
booming economy, which has consistently ranked
as one of the fastest-growing within the European Union.
    According to the
European Commission’s economic forecast
for 2023, Malta’s GDP growth reached an impressive
5.6%,
driven by a strong performance in key industries such as

finance, iGaming, and technology. The
iGaming industry alone
    contributes approximately
12% of the country’s GDP and employs
    more than
12,000 people, thanks to Malta’s favorable regulatory framework.
    The
financial services sector is another powerhouse, growing
    by
11.8% in 2023, with a robust demand for skilled professionals.

The Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) reported that the
financial sector continues to expand, creating thousands of new
jobs and attracting foreign talent. Additionally, Malta’s government
    has been actively promoting
fintech, blockchain, and AI-driven
    innovations, with initiatives like the
Malta Start-up Residence
Programme helping the tech sector thrive.
    Malta’s
tourism industry has also rebounded strongly, exceeding
    pre-pandemic visitor numbers by
26% in early 2024, contributing
significantly to economic growth. This recovery has boosted
tourism-related
    businesses, alongside a growing
real estate market and
pharmaceutical
    manufacturing.

Addressing the Skills Shortage

Harry observed that while Malta's economy is booming, the country
    faces a
local skills shortage, especially in critical sectors such as

IT, engineering, finance, and healthcare. According to a
Q1 2024 survey
conducted by the Malta Chamber of SMEs, the
shortage of skilled labor was
cited as the most pressing issue for businesses, with over
60% of companies
reporting difficulties in finding qualified employees to meet the demands of
the expanding economy. This shortage is largely driven by the rapid growth of
industries like iGaming, technology, and finance.
    As reported by the
European Commission, Malta’s
employment growth reached

6.5% in 2023, supported by an influx of foreign workers to address these shortages.
However, the demand for highly skilled professionals continues to outpace supply.
For Indian nationals, this presents a wealth of opportunities, as sectors such as

finance, IT, and engineering actively seek international talent to fill these gaps.
    Malta’s
business-friendly policies and its need for skilled
labor make it an attractive destination for Indian professionals
looking to expand their careers in a market that is actively seeking qualified expertise.
